I am an evolutionary geneticist studying reproductive behaviors and how they contribute to the speciation process. I use genetics, genomics, and neurobiology to understand male and female co-evolution. I have worked on premating behaviors, sperm competition, and hybrid inviability. While our main organisms are Drosophila species, I have also worked with Caenorhabditis nematodes, and plant pollinators.
Astrid Rodriguez Leon BS (Purdue University)
Masters Student in Biology 2024-current
Astrid's research focuses on understanding the genetic basis of female choice. Focusing on the gene Neuroglian Astrid is disentangling the effects of these gene on brain development and adult behavior.
