Faculty Advisor, Dr. Jeb J. Card
Hello, my name is Olivia Berger. I am a graduating senior at Miami University with a major in Anthropology and a minor in Archaeology. This past summer, I spent my time working on a dig site in Portugal, where I did a lot of work with Classical pottery. I knew I wanted to continue my research and so I brought it to Miami. One of my other passions besides archaeology is art, and I have learned a lot about the process of how vessels are made, helping me understand the content I have studied.Â
My research consisted of me looking through the Beazley Database, which holds records of thousands of Greek vessels. Using this as my primary source of data, I narrowed down my research to analyzing iconography on Athenian red-figure pots. Along with the guidance of Dr. Card from the Anthropology Department here, I analyzed four different shapes of vessels- oinochoai, amphorae, lekythoi, and cups- and identified any iconographic patterns that occurred.
