The Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) occupies land on the banks of the Milwaukee River in what is presently known as Wisconsin. This land is the home of Ho-Chunk, Menominee, Potawatomi, and Ojibwe peoples, and it is the historic and present-day home of peoples who were forced by colonizers to leave their ancestral lands and migrate to and through this state. MIAD’s Acknowledgment affirms our actionable commitment to uplifting and centering Indigenous peoples and knowledge in our teaching and administration.
Library Resources
The MIAD Library and its collections are designed to meet a wide variety of learning needs: on-site access to more than 18,000 books, videos and DVDs, more than 60 current periodicals with over 17,000 back issues available, textbooks on reserve, and an up-to-date collection of career materials are only a start. An additional 500,000 items are available for delivery to MIAD via online request from the library consortium, SWITCH. The Library provides students with a comfortable place to work laptops, or they can use one of several computers to access the online catalog, TOPCAT, research and image databases, online reserves, email and more.

In addition to our staff, we have a team of trained Student Library Clerks to help meet your needs. Our clerks are friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to answer any questions you may have. Stop by and say hi!
Student clerks are typically hired at the beginning of each semester, based on the needs of the Library at that time. We typically have anywhere from 8-10 student clerks employed by the library. Be sure to watch Handshake, as well as the Library bulletin board and signs around the library for job opportunities!
