Final Reflection
Looking back on this journey, I realize that the SEA Teacher Program gave me far more than just teaching experience. It pushed me beyond my comfort zone, introduced me to people from different cultural backgrounds, and allowed me to see education from a broader perspective.
Teaching in another country helped me understand that although classrooms may look different, the purpose of education remains the same. It is about inspiring students to learn, grow, and believe in their potential.
This experience also strengthened my confidence as a future educator. Every lesson I taught, every interaction with students, and every cultural encounter contributed to my growth. It shaped my vision of becoming an educator who is not only competent but also globally minded.
More importantly, this journey deepened my understanding of the power of language. Language is not merely a subject to be learned. It is a bridge that connects people, cultures, and opportunities. It also reminded me that teaching is not only about delivering knowledge, but about reaching people, understanding them, and leaving a meaningful impact on their lives.
There are moments when I still find it hard to believe that I have come this far. What once felt like a distant dream of going abroad has now become part of my reality.
Perhaps this is only the beginning. The experiences and lessons I gained from this journey will continue to guide me as I move forward, both as an educator and as a lifelong learner.
Suggestions
Reflecting on this program, I would like to offer a few suggestions for future improvement:
Providing a clearer timeline or guideline at the beginning of the program would help participants prepare for each stage more effectively and decrease something that is too spontaneous.
Increasing opportunities for collaborative teaching or interaction with local students.
Give Tagalog course for the participants.
Extending the duration of cultural immersion activities would allow participants to gain a deeper understanding of the local culture. I need more DALLIASAT, hahaha.
These suggestions are shared with appreciation, as the program has already provided a meaningful and valuable experience.
Special Thanks
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the people who made this journey truly meaningful:
My UNESA team, Hafidz, Ocha, Yasmin, and Citra, for supporting and encouraging one another since day one.
My UMS friends, Iyok, Fafa, and Yunita, who made our first days at the balay feel warm, lively, and far from empty.
My buddies, who were always there to help us and made us feel at home, especially my buddy Cassandra.
Ma’am Aphrodite, for guiding us despite her busy schedule, for sharing her experiences as an educator, and for giving us opportunities to actively participate. I am also grateful for the moments we shared, including the meals she prepared and the time we spent together.
Sir JN, as our coordinator, for guiding us throughout the program and for capturing many memorable moments. He is truly a great photographer.
Kuya Laurenz, for always helping us at the balay and for the Mang Inasal treat.
And to all the kind-hearted people I met along the way, thank you for being part of this precious journey.
Lastly...
I am truly grateful for the opportunity that has brought me this far. What once began as a simple dream has now become a meaningful chapter in my life.
I hope this experience becomes a starting point for greater opportunities ahead, where I can continue to grow, learn, and contribute as an educator. I also pray to be given the strength and chance to keep pursuing my goals and making a positive impact on others.
I will always remember the lyric from Laskar Pelangi, “Mimpi adalah kunci untuk kita menaklukkan dunia.” This reminds me not to be afraid of dreaming big. One more thing I want to write here is “I will always be a girl who wants to see and explore the world”.
Lastly, to everyone who has supported me along the way, thank you for being part of this journey. See you in my next story!
Warm regards,
Liana
