What is the SEA Teacher program?
The SEA-Teacher Program (Southeast Asian Teacher Project) is an international teaching practicum initiative organized by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization through the SEAMEO Secretariat. The program provides pre-service teachers from Southeast Asian universities with the opportunity to experience teaching practice abroad for about one month.
Through this program, selected participants are placed in partner universities across Southeast Asia, where they engage in various academic and cultural activities. These activities usually include classroom observation, assisting local teachers, conducting actual teaching sessions, and reflecting on their teaching experiences.
One of the main goals of the SEA Teacher Program is to help future educators develop stronger teaching skills while improving their English communication abilities. At the same time, the program encourages participants to build cross-cultural understanding by interacting with students, teachers, and communities from different cultural backgrounds.
Overall, the SEA Teacher Program aims to strengthen teacher education and the quality of education in Southeast Asia by giving future educators the chance to experience diverse teaching environments, broaden their perspectives, and build meaningful connections across cultures.
About the Host Institution: UNP
The University of Northern Philippines (UNP) is a public state university located in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, Philippines. Established as a university in 1965 through Republic Act No. 4449, it traces its origins back to 1906 and is recognized as the first and oldest state university in Northern Luzon. The institution plays an important role in providing accessible higher education and promoting academic excellence in the region.
During my SEA Teacher participation, I conducted my teaching practice at the UNP Laboratory School, a training school affiliated with the university where pre-service teachers gain practical classroom experience. The school serves as a learning environment where future educators can develop their teaching skills while supporting students in an active and collaborative academic setting.
