6th Grade September Math Concepts
Welcome to September! This month in 6th-grade math, we are diving into essential concepts in number theory and proportional reasoning. Students will build key skills that form the backbone of middle school mathematics.
Here is a look at what we will cover this month:
Number Theory: Finding the Greatest Common Factor (GCF) and Least Common Multiple (LCM).
Ratios & Equivalent Ratios: Writing ratios, writing equivalent ratios, and expressing them in simplest form.
Rates: Calculating unit rates for real-world scenarios.
Graphing & Tables: Completing ratio tables and graphing equivalent ratios on a coordinate plane.
To make learning engaging and interactive, students will participate in dynamic activities like The Factor and Multiple Game to reinforce number relationships, as well as a hands-on GCF Application Activity to solve real-world problem scenarios.

September 7th Grade Math Update: Rates, Ratios & Proportions
Welcome to September! This month, our 7th-grade mathematicians are diving into proportional reasoning. We will explore how quantities relate to one another and build practical, real-world problem-solving skills that connect directly to everyday life.
Here is an overview of the core concepts we will cover throughout the month:
Unit Rates & Unit Prices: Calculating rate per single unit and comparing real-world prices to find the best value.
Complex Fractions & Unit Rates: Solving rate problems that involve fractions within fractions.
Dimensional Analysis: Converting measurements accurately using unit ratios.
Proportional Relationships: Identifying, setting up, and solving proportional equations.
Graphing Proportional Relationships: Plotting relationships on the coordinate plane and interpreting the constant of proportionality directly from a graph.

Welcome to September! This month, our 8th-grade mathematicians are kicking off the year by exploring the power of numbers—literally! We are diving into exponents and scientific notation, which help us work with both massive and microscopically small values.
Here is a look at the core concepts we will cover throughout September:
Powers & Exponents: Understanding base numbers, exponents, and expanding exponential expressions.
Multiplying & Dividing Monomials: Applying exponent rules to simplify algebraic terms efficiently.
Powers of Monomials: Raising expressions with exponents to another power.
Negative Exponents: Exploring how negative powers create small fractional values.
Scientific Notation: Converting, comparing, and computing numbers written in scientific notation.
Google Classroom: Please check your child's Google Classroom regularly for daily lesson updates, assignments, and class materials.
Ask Your Student: A great conversation starter at dinner is simply asking them to explain one of the exponent rules or show you how scientific notation works!
