Getting to Know Mrs. Swartwout

Welcome to 6th grade! My name is Mrs. Swartwout (the second "w" is silent) and I am so excited to begin another year teaching 6th grade math at MIS. This will be my 8th year teaching upper elementary mathematics.

I'm originally from Florida but moved to Boone, North Carolina just in time for middle school. I stayed in Boone and attended Appalachian State University where I received my degree in Elementary Education. I pursued an additional license to teach art as well. Even though I haven't had an art classroom all to myself, I like to incorporate a lot of visual strategies in our math class and I am a big advocate of divergent thinking and individualization.

I now live in Huntersville with my husband and our four pets and my new baby boy, Easton.

My Favorites

Color: Neon Green (Like our Hallway!)

Book: Fish in a Tree

Food: Quesadillas, hands down

Hobbies: Cooking and experimenting with new recipes, snowboarding, swimming, and DRAWING.

Quote: “Go out into the world and do well...but more importantly, go out into the world and do good."
