World History

Course Description

This course examines world events from 1600 to the present. It explores the impact of the democratic and industrial revolutions, the forces that led to world domination by European powers, the wars that changed empires, the ideas that led to independence movements and the effects of global interdependence. The concepts of historical thinking introduced in earlier grades continue to build with students locating and analyzing primary and secondary sources from multiple perspectives to draw conclusions (ODE).

Students will be expected to work efficiently and cooperatively in both small groups and independently in order to gain the needed knowledge and to complete a number of different activities. Students will also be expected to respectfully participate in small and whole group discussions, along with the completion of research based projects. There will be a large emphasis on reading and writing, critical thinking, and technology skills in nearly every lesson.
