Classroom teachers and supervisors have the authority to create and enforce their own specific policies involving technological device usage for their specific learning environment. Students may use personal technological devices (cell phones, tablets, MP3 players, laptops, etc.) in instructional settings and during instructional time for educational purposes under the supervision and discretion of a staff member.
Procedure for Violation of Classroom Technology Policy:
1st incident—Staff member conferences with student and holds a restorative conversation
2nd incident—Student relinquishes the device to the staff member; staff member conferences with the student and returns the device at the end of the period; if the student refuses to relinquish the device, a behavior referral is submitted
3rd incident—Student relinquishes the device to a staff member; staff member turns the device over to an Associate Principal; s/he conferences with the student and/or parent and enacts appropriate disciplinary consequence; if the student refuses to relinquish the device, a behavior referral is submitted
