Session Description:
Recent research conducted in Georgia offers innovative induction programs and practice ideas that strengthen induction teacher development. Key themes related to developing induction teachers as teacher leaders, engaging education preparation programs in induction support, supporting alternatively certified teachers, and developing mentor teachers’ capacity. Four researchers will use guiding questions to facilitate an interactive discussion with session participants.

Partnering to Support and Retain Novice Educators through Professional Learning

Session Description:
News reports continue to highlight the desire of our nation’s teachers to retire early or change professions due to the increasing workload and extra stress fueled by the pandemic. With a limited pipeline of teachers and few available “bodies” to fill existing openings, a focus on supporting and retaining existing teachers is critical.
To address this need, the Georgia Department of Education has leveraged Office of Special Education Programs funds and partnered with American Institutes for Research, Georgia Learning Resources System (GLRS), the Center on Great Teachers and Leaders, and Kennesaw State University to establish the Georgia Teacher/Provider Retention Program (GA-TPRP), which provides training and coaching support to novice teachers, designed to strengthen core instruction using the high-leverage practices and mixed-reality simulation.
In this session, participants will hear as the presenters share how they are partnering together to collaboratively implement GA-TPRP with their novice teachers, highlighting program successes, Year 1 Data, and tips for implementation.

Reimagining Leader Induction and Retention

Session Description:
Increased accountability and challenging issues in education have resulted in a high turnover of school leaders. School districts must recruit and retain leaders who can serve school communities and positively impact student achievement, even during challenging times. School districts must be intentional in providing leadership induction programs that will help new school leaders thrive in their new roles. Learn how the Bibb County School District has worked diligently to reimagine how to support new and aspiring leaders.
