Session Description:
Building from research findings from a qualitative case study exploring the intern as teacher model in South Georgia, the presenter presents a proposal considering how partners can establish the model to support undergraduate intern candidates. Participants will consider their current practices and identify supports currently in place to support the model.

Georgia Special Education Teacher Induction Program

Session Description:
The Georgia Teacher Induction Program is supported by a 5 year grant from the Office of Special Education Programs. The induction program, designed to prepare and retain special education teachers, has been fully implemented during the 2021-2022 school year serving more than 500 induction level teachers. The Georgia Learning Resources System (GLRS) in partnership with Georgia Department of Education, Center on Great Teachers and Leaders and Kennesaw State University has provided a robust induction program centered around high leverage practices.

Session Description:
We recognize that Covid-19 drastically altered the preparation of individuals who have graduated from Georgia State University (GSU) teacher education programs in 2020-2021 with many of them teaching in virtual or concurrent settings, rather than face-to-face in their final year. To provide ongoing support for GSU teacher education and other school professional graduates (e.g., school counselors, school psychologists, school leaders) teaching in their first or second year, we developed and launched our inaugural university-led, virtual Induction Support Program (ISP) where we “inspire, support, and propel” graduates to new heights in their teaching experiences. Participants attending this session will be able to identify (1) key program components and implementation plan, (2) preliminary program results from the first year, and (3) implications for program improvement and research. They will also have the opportunity to share their ideas on induction program development and implementation.

The Components of Effective New Teacher Induction

Session Description:
During this session we will look at the seven components of an effective induction program for all new teachers, you will have time to reflect and share ideas on the components. You will also learn about the Georgia Certified Induction Program that will start in SY 22-23 and why your district would want to participate.

The CSRA RESA New Teacher Center: An Overview and Investigative Walk Through of Online Support

“Our Step-by-Step Journey to Improve Induction Support”

Session Description:
Providing adequate induction support can be challenging, but when an organization provides no support, what do you do? Where do you start? Feeling that adequate induction support for new teachers and leaders is critical to their development, North Georgia RESA began a journey to provide support to our schools and districts. The catalyst for this work was the NW P-20 Collaborative which helped to develop and guide this work. Watching the growth of this initiative at North Georgia RESA has been most positive. Session Description:
Lever, Mathis and Mayworm (2017) suggest that historically school leaders have focused only on the mental health and wellness of students, while missing the mark as they have ignored the mental health and stress levels of teachers and school-level administrators. This session will inform and enlighten educators about wellness, self-care, and mindfulness while equipping them with resources and tools to add to their professional and personal toolbox as they strive to achieve the optimum work-life balance.
