The majority of my PPD events where based on goals that I had wanted to achieve already in the STEM field. There are several skills and experiences that benfit someone in STEM like myself and those are the PPD events that I participated in over the past two years.
This was by far my favorite component of the LLC. I really value continued education, especially when it is something I am excited about and passionate about, and there is an added bonus when it benefits my future career. I learned a lot of talents and skills related to STEM work and there are the best example of this listed below.
What did you do?
I went to a workshop for career development and walked around the campus of the MDF in Oakridge. I learned about future career developments and about current careers and how engineering plays into those

What was this workshop about?
The workshop was a career educational event designed to educate me on the workings of industrial 3d printers and how there are careers in developments with the new implementations of these machines
What did you learn by participating in this? What did you learn about yourself?
I learned about the upcoming atmospheric 3d printers that take advantage of lessend gravitational pull in order to accomplish amazing jobs. this is a huge field that is on the rise.
I learned myself that I could see myself interning and/or working there in my future. I love the work being done there and think it is very fascinating
How can you use what you learned in the future?
like I said before I could use this information to apply it to a future career in this field. it is ground breaking technology and I am very excited to learn about it all.
Do you recommend other McGills to participate in this? Why or why not?
I did not. I do not know of any other McGills who are interested in the same field of work that I am, therefore this workshop would not have applied to them

It is a mechanical engineering Internship about the construction process of high performance/luxury boats
What did you learn by participating in this? What did you learn about yourself?
I learned how to use Microsoft Access and a collection of industrial programming devices. I learned the fiberglass process. I learned that I enjoy the industrial side of engineering and could see my self here as well.
How can you use what you learned in the future?
I am still unsure of what I want to do in the future in regards to my degree, so I can use what I learned here to influence my career choice.
Do you recommend other McGills to participate in this? Why or why not?
If there are other Engineering McGills then I would strongly recommend this event. It is far away, but they pay and the experience is amazing.
What did you do?
I learned how to operate a CAD program (Computer aided design) called draftsight and used a CNC machine.

This event was two days long on two Tuesdays before the quarantine, led by Melvin Cummins
What was this workshop about?
It was so that I could use A CAD program effectively because that is the most common tool used by engineers and how to turn that DWG file into a DFX file which could be used by a CNC machine

I learned valuable skills that all engineers need to know, not just for professional use but also recreational or hobby use
How can you use what you learned in the future?
Engineers use CAD 24/7 for prototyping and project proposals

Computer Science lab

It was on a Wednesday this month hosted over zoom by Prof. Lowe
What was this event about?
It was about creating a computer virus
What did you learn by participating in this? What did you learn about yourself?
I learned how to make a computer virus, for the purpose of being able to recognize viruses and know more about them.
How can you use what you learned in the future?
If I go into anything involving computer science, computer security is very important, so this is a good skill to have.

McGill Retreat
what didnt we do! Introduced everyone, talked about the program, learned about our personalities, values, identities, and life stories. and we kinda ended things by summarizing our selves with a 7 word motto.

It was saturday the 29th and it was hosted By Twitch.
What was this event about?
It was a retreat that was meant for us to get to know the newest cohort of McGills, and for us to think critically together.
What did you learn by participating in this? What did you learn about yourself?
Learned a lot about my personality, my values, and what has shaped my life story as well as what I look back on in my life.
How can you use what you learned in the future?
It is always nice to be able to connect with people

Took an online Linkd in learning class on Swift to go even deeper into the language

It about learning the details of Swift and how to effectivly create an IOS app

I learned that I really enjoy building apps as a hobby
How can you use what you learned in the future?
Its a really good way to solve some basic problems in life, applications can vary vastly in what they can do, and honestly if you are creative enough you can do anything

if they are interested in CS then yes I would, its a great skill to have.
personal development "goal" program
I ran this event
It was about goal setting and time management for setting goals
I learned multiple strategies for self motivation and planning goals. I learned ways that motivated me and learned a lot about mental health correlation to preexisting metal disorders.
I have used this to adjust my goal setting tactics for myself
I would recommend any mcgill to find ways to set goals and learn about it on their own
This was a very intensive program I set for myself and if anyone would like to learn more about it, I would encourage them to come talk to me.

It was about the basics of operating systems and how they work at a basis level in correlation with assembly level code

I learned about operating systems and that I like seeing the whole picture of "the computer" I feel as though I have learned all the stages of computer development at this point
How can you use what you learned in the future?
Now that I have learned more about computers I can always use that knowledge to help in my future career and just being one step closer to "expertise"

Probably not, its a very technical CS book.

What was this event about?
He was talking to me about situational depression and was able to listen for a while.
What did you learn by participating in this? What did you learn about yourself?
I learned some valuable things about what I was feeling due to what i have experienced this semester.
How can you use what you learned in the future?
It is helpful to know that sometimes our situation and environment in life causes depression and that things will change. It was good to hear him say that this isolation and restriction from visitors will end and that even though it doesn't seem like it, some people at this school actually care about the well being of students and not just enforcing policy.
Do you recommend other McGills to participate in this? Why or why not?
I would recommend people see him at least once if they are feeling depressed or anxious.

Mike Rankin, Its a Linkedin Course.
What was this workshop about?
This course is a class that teaches photoshop and other adobe skills in order to gain certification in Adobe.
What did you learn by participating in this? What did you learn about yourself?
I learned graphic design in Adobe Photoshop.
How can you use what you learned in the future?
Adobe certifications are great on resumes, because an understanding of professional graphic design techniques show the ability to portray information and findings in an effective legal fashion.
Do you recommend other McGills to participate in this? Why or why not?
I would definitely recommend not only this course but also a linkedin learning account where you can take any course imaginable.
Went to a course on linked in learning for swift UI
Linkedin learning, Stephen Lipton.
It was a course learning how to do swift UI which is for IOS developement front end coding.
I have been learning Swift which is back end computer programming for IOS apps and now this is phase 2 of putting together the front end work with a user interface. I learned that I have found an appreciation in both world of design and coding.
I case use this to put both pieces together and create really useful software
if they are into creating code then definitely yes.
