Welcome

The Metuchen Public School District is committed to “provide all students with a safe and nurturing environment in which to foster academic, social and emotional growth.” The district's Social Emotional Character Development (SECD) Committee was established to support staff and parents by providing resources to help students understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, make responsible decisions, and demonstrate good character. With the COVID-19 pandemic upon us, we recognize the importance of our role in the community and are further committed to expanding our focus by providing resources for student development and success.

Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Metuchen School District’s Social-Emotional Character Development Committee to positively shape the social, emotional, and character development of our students and the greater Metuchen community. We will do this by: 1.) facilitating community outreach events; 2.) providing resources to families via our podcast and website; and, 3.) actively educating our staff on applicable research, best practices, and the understanding and implementation of SEL. Through the aforementioned, our goal is to assist in raising ethical, responsible, and caring people. We are committed to ensuring that students and families in the Metuchen School District feel safe, respected, supported and connected to those around them.
