GENERAL 10TH GRADE STRUCTURES
Where do I find the names and emails of my/my student’s teachers?
Please see the drop down menu above.
Where do I find my/my students work for each class that is given each day?
The teachers will consistently update the calendar that is located on the 10th grade website throughout the week. This document will continue to change when there are new assignments and new announcements. Please continue to look back here on a regular basis.
What does my schedule look like?
Students in the hybrid model, coming into the building are divided up into “pods”. A pod is no more than 9-12 students socially distanced in a room. Students stay in their pods all day. Students who are in fully remote learning will not be assigned a pod, but will instead receive a "RL" group. Two classes will take place each day -- one in the AM block for 2.5 hours and the second in the PM block for 2.5 hours. If you have any additional questions, please contact your crew advisor.
What is the “Expedition Course”?
This is an opportunity for students to have a common learning experience across the grade while also building community within their in-person pods in the building (and within their remote communities) to start the school year. During a time that is intense, very different and challenging, students will be able to engage in a learning experience that is relevant to who they are and their place in our community. Students will also have a chance to engage in some relevant, interesting and authentic learning without being bound by subjects or specific course content.
What is Google Classroom?
Google Classroom is the interface that all teachers will be using to communicate assignments and Zoom links with their students. Each class will have their own Google Classroom. If you do not have access as a student, email your teacher directly. If you are a parent and want to see your student's work, please contact the teacher and they will be able to add you on your child’s page.
How can I sign up to receive Google Classroom notifications for my/my child’s work?
Email the content teacher and they will send you an invitation at your request. You will receive an email invitation and then you need to accept the initiation to begin getting notifications.
How do I know what assignments are due this week?
The teachers will consistently update the calendar throughout the week. This document will continue to change when there are new assignments and new announcements. Students will also be able to see the deadlines of assignments on their Google Classroom page where the assignment is linked.
What should I/my student do if they are absent?
Please notify the school. If you are feeling up to it, stay up to date on as much work as you can to prevent falling behind. If you want some more guidance please email teachers.
GRADES AND OUR ONLINE GRADING SYSTEM
How do I know how I/my child is doing in classes?
Our grading system where all assignments are will be entered and graded is called JumpRope. It is essential that you as a student and parent know how to log on to see your continued progress. Please log onto JumpRope using your child’s account information.
What is a “JumpRope comment”? How do I see my child’s comments?
JumpRope comments are notes written by teachers to notify crew leaders and parents about the students successes, challenges, and celebrations. These comments are sent to crew leaders, and when necessary, are sent to parents to loop them into what is happening in their classes. These comments serve to keep everyone on the student’s team on the same page to continuously monitor their progress.
CLASS SPECIFIC QUESTIONS
What happens if my child misses an assignment that is graded?
Have your child email the teacher to determine whether or not the assignment can be made up. If a new deadline is provided, please ensure that your child meets that deadline.
How do I/my child set up their notebooks and folders for each class?
It is essential that you stay organized! However, this is different for each class! Please email the content teacher so you get the best and most clear answer.
What if I/my student needs more help in a particular subject?
This is bound to happen! Whether you need something clarified, you were absent and have questions about what you missed, or just want to review the content in a smaller group, this time with teachers is called office hours.
OFFICE HOURS - Each teacher will have their hours posted on their Google Classroom. Office hours will take place on B days from 12:30 - 1:30 pm. If you are unable to attend a particular teacher's office hours but would still like to meet with them, send them an email to schedule an appointment.
SMALL GROUP SUPPORT - These sessions may be included in your schedule on B days from 9:00 - 10:00 or 10:00 - 11:00 am. During this time, students will work with a teacher on organization, assignment completion, and review of content. They will also create a plan for attending teacher office hours in the afternoon if necessary. If you/your child have not been scheduled for small group support, but you think it may be helpful, please email rdemalderis@metropolitanels.com.
