Grading Procedures

Grading Procedures:

In my opinion, the key to success is your social studies folder in your Google Drive. Everything of importance is placed into it, including study guides, reading checks, maps, puzzles, and critical thinking exercises. Keeping yourself organized and being able to find your documents and classwork is extremely important. If you need time and/or help in sorting your information, please let me know. I am happy to assist you anytime this year.

In addition to keeping organized, you should consistently put forth your best effort. For example, review your assignments before submitting them and double check your responses. Examine the class rubrics that are given at the beginning of an assignment. Also, examine the feedback on your graded assignments and review Power School to stay current on your grades.

The Social Studies grade is calculated by four major criteria: Tests, Quizzes, Projects/Classwork, and Homework. Each assignment is given an assigned weight, which is discussed (in advance) in writing and verbally stated in class. This means that some things have more value than others, but no one item can cause serious damage.

I keep an accurate record of the events that we do in class online and homework assignments are always posted for daily/weekly reminders. Our Google Classroom will have an organized record of all activities, due dates, and upcoming assignments posted daily. It is always a good option!

Classroom Rules:

  1. Be Responsible for your own behavior

  2. Be prepared for class

  3. Raise your hand to contribute

  4. Complete all assignments on time.

The first offense is recorded as a verbal warning. The second offense is documented by the student in a “Classroom Conduct Report.” Repeated problems require parental involvement, so students will need a guardian signature on his/her conduct report. It is my belief that parents/guardians are key people in problem solving situations and that it just makes sense to keep parents/guardians informed and updated with a child’s success! As a general rule: Simply do what we do, when we do it, and do your best!
