About me
Hi! I am Miss Scanlon, and I am the Special Education teacher on the Astronomers!
This is my third year teaching in Methacton School District. I am honored and fortunate to be a part of the Methacton community and Skyview family! Some people may know me for my morning karaoke sessions during car line or my crazy outfits for Syview spirit days! I also love being a club sponsor here, I co-sponsor intramural sports, MathCounts, and homework club.
I am a graduate Gwynedd Mercy University, where I studied Elementary and Special Education. I am currently pursuing a master's degree from West Chester University. I grew up in Jenkintown, PA, alongside my three siblings. I currently live in Bridgeport, PA! I enjoy sports, shopping, baking, and cooking. In my free time, I love spending my time down the shore with my family and lounging on the beach.
I can't wait to get to know you and am looking forward to a memorable year!
I love traveling to and exploring different places. This summer I went to Myrtle Beach, Ocean City Maryland, Sea Isle City, and Ireland!
My family in Ireland this Summer!
I love spending time with my younger sisters! My sister Bridget is a nurse and my sister Maura just started her senior year at Penn State! We are!
I love working and collaborating with other teachers at Skyview. Also, participating in fun school events!
Each day, I teach one small group math class that consists of students from team Astronomers and team Cirrus. I also co-teach and provide support in math with Mrs. Maier and ELA with Mrs. McGraw.
Homework Expectation:
Students are expected to complete 2 passed lessons on their individualized iReady Learning Path weekly. Students have from Monday to Sunday night before midnight to complete this weekly homework assignment. I would encourage your child to spend some time on iReady every night for homework to help best manage the homework expectation. Students are also encouraged to be using their headphones and have paper or a whiteboard to aid in answering questions.
Occasionally, students will be assigned a worksheet or homework posted in google classroom. Students will be informed in class of this homework and it will be posted in the astronomers homework calendar, as well.
Supplies Needed:
Students are expected to come to class each day with a charged chromebook and headphones. Students need a pencil with a good eraser every day. We utilize highlighters, dry erase markers, and whiteboard erasers in our classroom daily. Students may bring their own, but I also have a classroom set they have access to. Students only need a math folder for my class, I do not require a notebook.
Math Notebook & Math Workbook:
Students will be provided a 6th grade IReady math workbook. We will use this book daily in our class. In order to supplement and differentiate the material, students will be utilizing a math notebook. In this folder we provide formulas, graphic organizers, definitions, and more. This notebook is a great resource for students as we tackle the 6th grade content. We ask that these materials stay in the math classroom daily, unless a student is finishing an assignment or is using the material to study.
Google Classroom
Students will be invited to join google classroom the first week of school. We use google classroom for math very sporadically. Family newsletters from the workbook will be posted in google classroom. I will often post a variety of resources in there, as well. We will typically use google classroom in class for different digital activities. Our biggest online resource currently is the iReady program which is accessible on each students launchpad. Upcoming quizzes and tests will be posted on the team calendar rather than on google classroom.
