Dear Parents,
Hello! My name is Erin Baker and I will be your child's first grade teacher this year. I graduated from Shippensburg in 2001 with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Elementary Education. I graduated in December of 2006 with a Master's of Education from Cabrini. This will be my ninth year teaching first grade at Eagleville. I am very excited! I taught transitional first grade at Arrowhead for six years prior to coming to Eagleville. I live in Gilbertsville with my husband Bryan and two daughters. Madison is eleven, and is getting ready for sixth grade this year. She is a great big sister to Camryn, who is eight. Camryn will be in third grade this year! We had a wonderful time at the beach and pool this summer! We are very busy at home with the girls, soccer, lacrosse, and softball, but we wouldn’t have it any other way! I have enjoyed every minute of the summer break with them!
There are a few details I would like to let you know about before school starts. Your child need a backpack to carry his/her homework, lunch box, papers, etc., a pencil/supply box (big enough to store crayons, pencils, scissors, and a glue bottle), an art smock (in a Ziploc bag labeled with your child’s name), headphones/earbuds (whichever your child prefers), dry erase marker(s), and large glue sticks. The school will supply the crayons, pencils, scissors and bottles of glue but if your child would like to bring his/her own that is fine too! First graders LOVE to use markers, twistable crayons, and colored pencils! These are not necessary, but if you want to send them in, that is fine! Please make sure your child's name is clearly printed on all of his/her things!
Class donations are always welcome! I have no idea where all our pencils go, but we are always in need of new pencils! If you would like to donate any to the class, it would be greatly appreciated! (The #2 Ticonderoga ones are the best!) We are always looking for boxes of tissues! We can also use ziploc bags – (gallon, sandwich, and snack size!) hand sanitizer, hand soap, and wipes (Clorox/hand). We are always in need of extra glue sticks throughout the year. These items get used up quickly!
I would like your child to have a homework folder. This just needs to be a folder with pockets. Please label one side “Homework” and the other side “Home Papers”. I will send home a weekly assignment sheet so that you will know exactly what is to be done and when!
I am enclosing a name tag for your child to wear to school on the first day of school. We will have staff members helping the children find their rooms and a name tag is a big help! (Your child’s name, bus #, and teacher should be on the name tag!) I am very excited about teaching your child and working with you to make this a very rewarding year for all of us! Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. Enjoy the last few days of summer and I look forward to meeting all of you soon!
Sincerely,
Erin Baker
