Dear Parents,
Hello! I hope your child had a great first day of first grade! I’m sure he/she came home a little tired. It takes awhile for them to adjust to a full day of school (it takes their teacher a while too!) Please make sure your child gets plenty of sleep at night!
I wanted to inform you of a few details that should be helpful to you and your first grader. Each day we have a different special from 2:00-2:50 in the afternoon. The schedule is as follows:
Monday and Wednesday – Gym – Your child will need to wear sneakers and either pants or shorts on these days. (No skirts or dresses please.)
Tuesday – Library– Please try to help your child remember to return his/her library book each week so he/she may borrow a new one. Books may be sent back as soon as you have finished with them to avoid any getting misplaced
Thursday – Art-Please send an old adult-sized shirt labeled with your child’s name to school to be used as a paint smock. These will be kept at school for the entire year to be used for messy projects as needed. They should be sent in a large Ziploc bag.
Friday – Music
Speaking of homework…your child will have his/her first homework assignment on Monday, September 9th. On Monday night a “homework helper” will come home that will list the homework for each night. I will send home the assignments each night. The homework helper can either be kept in the folder for the week, or put in a safe spot at home so you and your child will know what is expected each week! I do not need them returned at the end of the week. Part of your child’s homework will be to read at least 10-15 minutes every night. This is so important and hopefully if you haven’t already, this will become a very enjoyable part of your nightly routine with your child!
You may send in a water bottle and a snack with your child. I recommend only those with twist-off caps as the others spill inside the desks. These will be sent home to be cleaned or replaced. Thank you!
The building can be chilly when the air conditioning is on. I would recommend sending a sweatshirt or sweater to be left at school in case your child gets cold.
As I told the kids, you are the ones that have homework this week! I know how many papers, forms, etc. there are to go through these first few days. I have a lot more to share with you but I will save that for further newsletters and Open House, which is on Thursday, September 19th…please mark it on your calendars!
If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact me here at school (610-489-5000 x-41108) or e-mail me (ebaker@methacton.org). I am really looking forward to a great year with your child. I am also looking forward to meeting all of you and working with you to make this a very rewarding year for all of us! Thanks in advance for everything…and as always, write or call with any questions you may have.
Sincerely,
Erin Baker
