Mike Major currently serves as the Director of Bands at McDonald Middle School in Mesquite, TX.  

When Mr. Major arrived at McDonald 18 years ago, there were only 50 students enrolled in the entire band program. Now, it is thriving with over 200 students in one 6th grade Beginner Band and three 7th and 8th grade Advanced Bands.  Mr. Major's bands have consistently earned Superior ratings at UIL Evaluation and Invitational Contests.  He previously worked at North Mesquite High School in Mesquite, TX, and Gentry Public Schools in Gentry, AR. 

Mr. Major is a 1994 graduate of the University of Arkansas and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education.  He earned his Master's of Education from Texas A&M University-Commerce in 2008. 

Mr. Major is a Google-Certified Educator who uses all of the Google tools in his classes.  This helps the students "flip" the classroom so they can be more efficient at school and at home.

Mr. Major resides in Garland, Texas, with his wife of over 30 years, Nikki.  Nikki is the District Testing Facilitator for Mesquite ISD.  They have two children:  Grace; a dancer at the California Institute of the Arts, whose goal is to be a choreographer, and Max; who was a   trombone player in the Big Blue Band at North Mesquite High School. He is now currently in college at Dallas College studying to be a Forensic Technician.
