AI Usage and Koha Awareness Workshop for Budding LIS professionals

Maharashtra Education Society’s Institute of Management and Career Courses (MES IMCC) organized a One Day Awareness workshop on “AI Usage & Koha Awareness for budding LIS Professionals.” for the LIS Community on 4th April 2026 at IMCC, Pune India

For budding Library and Information Science (LIS) professionals, the future of librarianship lies at the intersection of traditional service, Koha open-source management, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) integration. AI tools such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, and QuillBot are used for research, content creation, and answering questions and thus increases the need for a specialized training; Koha is an open-source LMS and a first step towards automating the library operations, further its integration with AI gives a cost-effective, smart library services. Keeping this approach as a center theme an awareness workshop about the koha applications and the AI tools organised for the LIS professionals to give the conceptual clarity and the guidance about AI tools and its utilization in LIS operations by keeping an information authenticity as a center theme.

The Awareness workshop received response from all the community segments- students of BLib MLib , PhD Research Scholars and the LIS professionals including Librarians of National Institutions, affiliated colleges, Asst Professors, and Library Assistants covering the Teaching non-teaching communities and the learners' community of the LIS profession

Understanding (MoU) between the INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar and the Department of Higher and Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra : preparation for a detailed proposal

The Maharashtra State Government appointed a committee to work on a detailed proposal in connection with the proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar and the Department of Higher and Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra ; the committee submitted a consolidated report in the DHE office in Pune to Dr. Shailendra Deolankar, Director DHE Pune office; The committee included following structure as- Prof. Dr Chavan , Chaiman with the members including Prof Nandkishor Motewar , Prof . Dr. Mrs Meenal Oak MESPune, Prof. Dr. Shantashree Sengupta, Prof. Dr. Madhuri Tikam, and Dr. Vrushali Rane.

The committee chalked out a detailed report based on four key aspects as-

1. A comprehensive analysis of technical infrastructure and required improvements;

2.Efficient structuring of financial provisions;3.An outline of the administrative and regulatory framework 4. Data collection , institutional ranking

The report further included necessary strategic measures required for the effective use of digital resources, availability of e-resources, and promotion of research across higher education institutions in the Maharashtra state.

ग्रंथपाल साठी कार्यशाळा प्रशिक्षक : पुणे पुस्तक महोत्सव २०२५ मध्ये राष्ट्रीय पुस्तक न्यास, नवी दिल्ली यांच्या वतीने आयोजित फर्ग्युसन महाविद्यालयामध्ये प्रशिक्षकाना प्रशिक्षण (Train the Trainers )ह्या उपक्रमांतर्गत ग्रंथपालांसाठी कार्यशाळा आयोजित करण्यात आली होती. यामध्ये मला प्रशिक्षक म्हणून आमंत्रित करण्यात आले. सदर कार्यशाळा 'ग्रन्थ मांडणी कक्षेबाहेर: ग्रंथालयांचे एक चैतन्यशील शिक्षण केंद्रांमध्ये परिवर्तन' (Beyond the Bookshelves: Transforming Libraries into Vibrant Learning Centres) ह्या विषयवार कार्यान्वित केली गेली. कार्याक्रमाचे प्रास्ताविक सिमरन कळसी, एन सी सी एल, राष्ट्रीय पुस्तक न्यास, नवी दिल्ली ह्यांनी केले.

MES IMCC's SET NET Workshop

Designed and Implemented successfully the SET NET Training Workshop for the LIS professionals. Its a result oriented and the most Successful and popular workshop on SET NET (Library & Information Science) in the Maharashtra state conducted for the 20 Sundays (6 months ; Full Time from 10.00am to 4.30pm ). Currently running its 7th batch. The candidates registering not only from Pune but also from all over Maharashtra such as Mumbai, Ambejogai, Aurangabad, Shengaon, Nashik, Ahmednagar, Mangaon , Solapur and various places near Pune as Manchar, Baramati, Khed . As on date a total 240 candidates registaered for the workshop, out of which total 25 candidates have qualified the SET/NEt examinations and working currently at the prestigious Institutions as a Librarian/ AL .

PGDLIMAN

Designed and Implemented a One Year Post Graduate Diploma in Digital Library Management, Automation & Networking (PGDLIMAN) programme of MES. It is an autonomous programme of MES’s IMCC. It aims at developing the professional competencies of the library and information professionals in an automated and digital library networked environment.

The program focuses on in-depth practical sessions for building the technological skills of the students supported by required sessions on the theory, in order to develop them as an independent library manager who will manage the library in the new era successfully which includes the focused courses like Library Automation, Digital Libraries: Foundation, Digital Libraries: Achieving and Preservation, Web Designing, Networking and Internet Technology, Resources on Internet, Programming with C along with the Project.
