On Thursday, February 23rd Jayla and I interviewed some amazing students in the following grades 3rd, 7th, and 8th. One incredible student we interviewed was the 8th grader Francisco Tinoco, or known by many as Fran. We asked him about his life during the Corona Virus tragedy that began three years ago, and this was how it went. Francisco was a student who was on his way to finishing up his fifth-grade year and beginning the transition to middle school. When covid hit, Fran described his feelings and reaction towards this news as happy and a bit sad in the middle. Fran told us that he's always had this close type of bond with his friends and just when he began to think about whether he'd be able to see his friends it saddened him. Some activities Fran enjoyed doing during the quarantine were playing video games such as Rocket League and NBA, eating, working out, playing sports, and sleeping. The concerns Francisco had developed during this time involved his education and learning. He wondered if he would be able to complete all of his assignments correctly and on time. One question we asked all of our guests was if you could go back to this time, what are something you wish you would have done and something you wish you didn't do? And this was Francisco's response. Francisco said that something he wished he would have done was complete and stay focused on his work. He also told us something he wished he did not do was turn on his camera during the online class meets and played fewer video games. Francisco said overall during this time of a scary and vulnerable place he still tried his best to make the best out of it. And one quote made by Francisco Tinoco and Chase Ehrke is, "¨8th grade is hard, but you just gotta live through it." I am honored to have been allowed to interview Francisco Tinoco, so thank you.

Two Seventh graders were curious about the footwear choices of their Middle School. So they created a Google Form and collected the responses. They sent the forms to all of Manzanita's Middle School and here are their results. Out of 23 responses, the top 3 shoes were Crocs, sneakers, and Vans. The most popular out of all of the shoes were Crocs with 6 students (27.3%) preferring them. The 2nd favorite and 3rd favorite were tied it was sneakers and Vans. Over half of the responses were from 7th grade then 8th then 6th with only 3. The two Seventh Graders that created the questionnaire were not surprised to see Croc's winning. "As one student said' "If you ain't Crocin' you ain't rockin'". Their teacher wonders how all the Croc wearers are making it through this rainy weather.

I believe that Earthquake and Fire Drills should be in the morning. Having the Earthquake and Fire Drill in the morning is a good way to start the day. Since it's in the morning and the siren is loud it will end up waking you up and start the blood running. In addition, it wastes less time because during the afternoon we usually have tests and it gets in the way of having more time for our test. Also, I think that instead of having it during class we should have it during recess because what happens if we are having an earthquake or a fire outside? We won't know what to do and that may cause fatal injuries.
Thus, Having A Earthquake and A Fire Drill in the morning will have our students will dramatically affect our students' academic performance.

I think WIN Time should have a class about learning different languages.
Learning a language can help people who don’t know English. Another reason why it is good to learn a language is you can go to a country and speak the native language. The last reason why learning a language is important is that you can understand their culture and language.

Some people say that Rainy day recess is amazing, but I believe that rainy day recess is horrible. Rainy day recess is horrendous because it makes recess feel a lot shorter and reduces the number of activities we can do.
Rainy day recess makes recess feel shorter. For example, most people just sit in the classroom and do nothing except wait for the class to start. The room feels dreadful like we will never escape the inside of our classrooms. It feels like we are living in a black and white TV, it is so boring. The least we could do is play in the gym when it's raining instead of sitting and doing nothing in class.
Rainy day recesses also limit what we can do. The choices we have in Middle School are to play on our computer, talk to our friends or read a book. You may think wow, free screen time, but really you can't play anything because it is all restricted. What we really want is to be active in the gym playing basketball or four square. It is healthy for us to exercise and it takes all our energy out so we can focus in class.
Overall, I think that Rainy day recess is horrible because it limits the number of things we can do and waste our time by making recess feel shorter. So the solution to this problem is the gym.

The book "The Giver" is a book that our class the 7th grade has to read for book club. We had different choices of books, and they are all dystopian novels. They had "City of Ember", "The Hunger Games", "The Giver", "Ready Player One", and "Maze Runner". I chose The Giver because it seemed the most interesting and because I've seen the movie a long time ago so I wanted to see how the book was. The book is pretty good so far! I'm on page 60 buts it's been super interesting. I haven't been reading that much this year because of sports and stuff and because I haven't been very interested in books, but this book has been interesting and really good. Also, I think everyone should read it and then watch the movie because the movie is very good too. This book also teaches a lesson that having our life, being in the world, and experiencing everything in the world are important, and that is what makes us human. The book is only about like 200 pages so it won't take most people long to read and finish. I think this book teaches us a lot and everyone should at least try to read it. I also recommend watching the movie because it shows all the stuff that happens so it explains it a little more if you're confused. I give this book a 10/10 rating even though I haven't finished it. Everyone should try it out!

Friday, February 10th was a big day in Mrs. Askea's second-grade class, it was the hundredth day of school which is a very big thing at Manzanita. I interviewed two amazing students who kindly showed me their spectacularly cool 100th-day-of-school glasses. Gracie was one of the kind individuals I interviewed and her glasses were cotton candy themed. The other wonderful student, Siaosi, made Mexican flag-themed glasses. For their Hundredth day, both kids stacked 100 plastic cups, which is harder than it sounds, and licked a lollipop 100 times! All the kids were fantastic and did amazing things for the spectacular 100th day of school.
