Community Engagement and Messaging
Oregon Department of Education, is funding the development of a Communication Toolkit, to build understanding and support for Mathways work
Key information:
This toolkit will be developed for use by administrators, counselors, and front-office staff
It will be widely available for use by June 2023
Toolkit Project Details
GOAL
This specific project will result in a communication toolkit that includes ready-made digital materials and templates that can be customized by school administrators, counselors and others, to aid in explaining to parents and community stakeholders the changes in the mathematics instruction and practice that high school students may experience in a local district. The toolkit will include:
Essential Understandings – explanatory materials with data, citations, and definitions.
Messaging – text, graphics, and presentations that can be used to communicate changes at community events and through social media channels.
Impact – Case studies, quotes, and stories that describe how schools have implemented the Oregon Math Pathways approach and how students have benefited from those changes.
FAQ – Clear and brief responses to critical questions parents and educators may have about changes in high school mathematics.
Proactive Planning Steps – Recommendations for data collection, professional development, and planning guides to help develop local implementation pathways.
All materials will meet the following technical criteria:
Final versions available in accessible formats, including MS Word and PDF versions.
Materials developed for direct communication with parents must be provided in Spanish and English.
Licensed as open educational resources (OER) with a CC-BY license through Creative Commons.
Common style and formatting with inclusion of the ODE logo and space for additional co-branding by a school or district.
