The Oregon Department of Education has funded six projects to develop 2+1 course blueprints that will align with the new Oregon state math standards.

Project: Core 9 Algebra Aligned with Patterns Physics, led by Portland Metro STEM

Project Description: The Portland Metro STEM Hub is teaming Algebra 1 teachers up with Patterns Physics experts to work towards integrating these subjects!

Project: Core 10 Data Science and +1 Data Science Options, led by Central Oregon STEM

Project Description: 

+1  Data Science Course - Jo Boaler  and/or Bootstrap:Data Science, Course Kata

A group of teachers  will be attending  the Virtual Bootstrap Data Science workshop July 18-22.  A few teachers attended  Jo Boaler's YouCubed Data Science workshop last year and piloted the course in Geometry and as well as a stand-alone course.  Teachers will develop a +1 Data Reasoning course using  concepts out of both curricula and potentially also Course Kata.

Project: Core 9 and 10 Math Applications, led by Southern Oregon STEM 

Project Description: A fantastic cadre of math teachers and professors are will leading teachers through current and relevant applications for Algebra and Geometry, aligning to CTE programs and various industry sectors. At the end of this series, resources and curriculum will be submitted to ODE for Oregon Open Learning. 

Focus will be Algebra and Geometry with applications relating to the following but not limited to: Tourism, Agriculture, Natural Resources, Culinary, Hospitality, IT, Computer Science, Business Management, Marketing, Government, Healthcare, Advanced Manufacturing, Construction, Transportation Tech, Automotive, Diesel and Engineering.

Project: +1 Quantitative Reasoning, led by GO STEM

Project Description: GO STEM is partnering with Wallowa ESD to support teachers in using Ohio's Quantitative Reasoning curriculum as a "plus 1" math course.

Project: Core 10 Geometry, led by LaneSTEM

Project Description: Lane STEM’s regional curriculum project will bring together high school Geometry teachers from across the state to collaboratively learn and plan for a redesigned and ambitious High School Geometry experience.

Project: +1 Financial Algebra, led by Oregon Coast STEM

Project Description: The Financial Algebra Course engages students with real-world financial applications while maintaining deep mathematical rigor. The 10 units include: Taxes, Checking, Savings, Budgeting, Intro to Investing, Investing Strategies, Types of Credit, Managing Credit, Paying for College and Insurance. This course will be heavily collaboration and project based. Students will be required to use google drive, docs and sheets on a regular basis. This course has a distinction of Algebra 1 or higher. 

Dates of work/commitment: This course will be piloted during the 2022-2023 school year.
