Course Description
The purpose of this course is to enable you to express yourself effectively, persuasively and movingly in public settings. You will learn skills and techniques essential to effective public speaking, as well as develop an understanding and appreciation for the role rhetoric plays in a democratic republic, both the positive and negative aspects.
You will apply public speaking skills and techniques through practical exercises that will enable you to incorporate them into your daily life. The manner in which you communicate is an extension of your personality.. You will learn to function more effectively and assertively in public and work environments, and you will develop a newfound ability to speak up effectively when you want or need to do so. You will learn to analyze public rhetoric more effectively, understand the motives and strategies of public officials, workplace communications and other public communication campaigns. You will also learn some of the significant history of public speaking and rhetorical movements. The skills and knowledge you gain in this course will empower you to participate as an effective, influential and ethical citizen.
