The purpose of this course is to help you to understand the principles of communication theory and to begin to put them into practice in your life. You will learn skills and techniques essential to effective communication in settings that include:
Intrapersonal (communicating with yourself),
Interpersonal (face-to-face communication),
Small Group (face-to-face with a few),
Public Speaking (one to many), and
Electronic Communication (Netiquette and Canvas: MCC's Online Learning Management System, LMS)
You will apply these skills and techniques through practical exercises that will enable you to incorporate them into your daily life. The manner in which you communicate is an extension of your personality. You can develop maturity, experience relationships that run more smoothly, and your friendships can become more meaningful. You will learn to function more effectively and assertively in public and work environments, and you will develop a newfound ability to speak up effectively when you want or need to do so.
