why do students need Physical Education?

At MEMS we strive to provide ALL students with skills and knowledge to be active, healthy "MOVERS" that appreciate participating in regular physical exercise, and who are prepared to take responsibility for their own health and well being.

The "Physically Educated" student at MEMS:

    • IS physically fit

    • HAS learned basic movement skills necessary to perform a variety of physical activities

    • DOES participate in regular physical activity

    • KNOWS the benefits of engaging in regular, planned physical exercise

    • VALUES physical activity and its importance to living a healthy life

What student's should be able to do after their Physical Education experience:

  • Demonstrate competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns

  • Apply knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies and tactics related to movement and performance.

  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills to achieve and maintain health-enhancing physical activity and fitness.

  • Exhibit responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others.

  • Recognize the value of physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and/or social interaction.
