As part of the design exhibition Into, Through, + For: A Collection of Contemporary Design Posters, Exhibition, 2020–2021, I was asked to design a limited-edition poster that would be a part of a set of eight that explored various “c-words” connected to design. My poster explored the idea of “concept.” The posters were also to include specified information provided by the professor for the actual exhibition. In the beginning, the professor had each of us generate concepts for a visual system for the set. The challenge I faced was developing a poster that worked independently as well as a visual system. Furthermore, it was required that my system include a set of rules for other designers to create in a “sandbox.” My strategy for solving this was to number the posters, use a consistent color palette and give people room to play with placing the typography around it. In the case of my poster I used a mix of overlapping and vertical text to grab the viewer’s attention. The bright colors and large scale typography accomplished my goal of drawing the viewer in.
