What is ACHA?

American Collegiate Hockey Association

The American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) is a college-level organization that provides opportunities for students to participate in ice hockey at a competitive level. For Women's ACHA, the organization is divided into two main divisions, Division 1 and Division 2, which are further divided into regions and conferences. Merrimack College is in the Northeast Region, for the Division 2 teams. Many universities and colleges all around the USA have ACHA teams that compete against other schools in their region or conference.

The 2023 Nationals will be at The New England Sports Center, in Marlborough Massachusetts,
March 16-20, 2023.

What is the IWCHL?

Independent Women's Club Hockey League

The Independent Women's Club Hockey League (IWCHL) is a college-level ice hockey league based in New England for Women. It is made up of club teams from various colleges and universities in the region. The IWCHL is divided into two divisions: the Presidential Division and the Adirondack Division. Merrimack is in the Presidential Division, where we play league games vs other Presidential Teams, and scrimmages with Adirondack Teams. At the end of the season, the top teams advance to playoffs. The IWCHL is an opportunity for female college students to continue playing ice hockey at a competitive level.

The 2023 Playoffs will be held at Lawler Arena,
at Merrimack College, February 18-19, 2023.

We are currently in the Presidential League, and for each season we must play all teams in the Presidential League at least once. We play the teams in the North twice, and the teams in the South once. We can then scrimmage anyone from the Adirondack League. For both the 22-23 & 23-24 season, this is plan is in place for Merrimack College.

Leadership positions on our team (E-Board Roles):

President: The president is the head of the team. They oversee all of the work done by other e-board members. They are responsible for making the game schedule for the season. The president must also reach out to rinks for ice times, including our practices. The president will also attend meetings with coach, reaching out to future players, and keeping in contact with Merrimack's Club Athletics department.

Vice President: The vice president works closely with the president. They are responsible for scheduling refs, athletic trainers, and a timekeeper for our games. They also are responsible for getting vans reserved for away games. Whatever else the president needs assistance with, usually the vice president is first to help.

Secretary: The secretary is responsible for managing the team email with the president. The secretary also schedules team meetings and helps with responding to rink managers. They are also in-charge of handling the score sheets.

Treasurer: The treasurer is responsible for handling all of the money. This means seeing how much we have, how much we need, and what we will have left over. They schedule the bus for UVM and possibly hotels for nationals.

Social Media Manager: The social media manager is responsible for running the instagram and the website. They post after each game with images and stats whenever we get pictures.

Leadership positions on our team (Captains):

The captains on our team play a special role. The captains work together with our coach to finalize the teams roster, the line up for all our games, practice plans and team bonding ideas. As captains you are expected to lead the team with a positive mindset. You work with coach on making decisions for the team as a whole. A good captain is a leader who will always put the team first, and is a team player on and off the ice.
