Ryan Greiner has been the 5-12 Band Director at Mediapolis Community Schools since 2019. Mr. Greiner graduated from the University of Northern Iowa where he majored in Music Education. While at the university, Mr. Greiner studied percussion with Randy Hogancamp, Matt Andrieni, and Dr. Ryan Frost. He performed with the Northern Iowa Symphony Orchestra, The Wind Ensemble, The Symphonic Band, and The Wind Symphony. Before studying at the University of Northern Iowa, Mr. Greiner studied Percussion Performance at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. During his time at Duquesne, he took percussion lessons with Ed Stephan, John Soroka, Chris Allen, and Andrew Reamer. While in Pittsburgh, Mr. Greiner performed with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, The Duquesne Symphony Orchestra, and the Duquesne Wind Ensemble. Mr. Greiner graduated high school from the Interlochen Arts Academy in Interlochen, Michigan. Before going to Michigan, Mr. Greiner lived in Jefferson, Iowa. Mr. Greiner won multiple awards as a Junior in High School. He won the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Concerto competition and performed with the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestra in 2012, as well as being an Iowa All-Stater (2011) and being an Outstanding Soloist at IHSMA Solo Festival (2012).
While Mr. Greiner is not teaching, he performs with many other groups when possible. These groups include, Southeast Iowa Band, Cedar Rapids Municipal Band, Iowa Brass, The Carroll Symphony Orchestra, and the Fort Dodge Karl King Band. If Mr. Greiner is not playing an instrument, you can either find him at the golf course or at home, playing video games.
Lydia Greiner is excited to be starting her 9th year of teaching and 6th year as the Assistant 5-12 Band Director at Mediapolis. Prior to this appointment, Mrs. Greiner was the 5-12 Band Director at Alburnett Community School District for 3 years. She graduated from the University of Northern Iowa where she studied music education. While at UNI she studied euphonium with Dr. Jesse Orth and Dr. Jeffrey Funderburk. Mrs. Greiner has performed with numerous University of Northern Iowa ensembles including the Northern Iowa Wind Symphony, UNI Singers, UNITUBA, Panther Marching Band, and Women’s Chorus. In 2017, she was awarded the Eastern Iowa Brass Band Young Artist Award in the Collegiate division. She was awarded the Myron and Ruth Russell Award in the 2016 Spotlight Performance Competition at UNI. In 2015, she was a finalist for the Student Euphonium Solo Division at the Midwest Regional Tuba-Euphonium Conference. Mrs. Greiner is a three year Iowa All-State euphonium player. She received the Major Landers IBA and SEIBA Scholarship in 2013. She won the Muscatine Symphony Concerto Competition in 2013 and the Eastern Iowa Brass Band Young Artist Competition High School Division in 2012.
Mrs. Greiner continues to play the euphonium and make music as much as she can in ensembles such as Southeast Iowa Band, Iowa Brass and the Cedar Rapids Municipal Band. She also plays piano and trombone and sings. She is a lifelong 4-Her and judges 4-H exhibits at county fairs throughout the summer.
Megan (Hollingsworth) Hostetter is excited to bring color guard back to life as the new color guard coach for the Mediapolis High School Marching Band. She is a 2008 graduate of Mediapolis, born and raised. In 5th grade, Megan joined band playing the clarinet. Then in her freshman year, she joined color guard for marching band. Megan was in color guard all 4 years of high school and loved it.
