Hello families! 

I hope you enjoyed the long weekend with this beautiful weather!  I am definitely looking forward to cooler temps and all that fall has to bring!  It is crazy to think that we are going into our 4th week of school already!  Please make sure to empty your child's RED folder on a regular basis!  Thank you and have a GREAT week! 

Discipline/Consequences - We continue to get to know each other and the 5th Grade Way.   I want to take a moment to explain how discipline is handled in my class.  I use a PLEASE - NEED - MUST to redirect students behavior.  This might sound like the following:

"PLEASE stop talking" 

"You NEED to stop talking"   

"You MUST stop talking"

After three prompts to change behavior, a THINK SHEET will be given to the student.  The THINK SHEET is meant to be used as a guide to discuss the behavior the student is demonstrating.  I will have a conversation with the student and dicuss alternative choices that can be made to help with the behavior (Calming Corner, seat change, etc.).  The THINK SHEET will be sent home for a parent signature and needs to be returned the follwing day.   I encourage you to have a conversation with your child as well.  I view the THINK SHEET as a communication tool between teacher, parent and student.    

What happens if a student gets 3 THINK SHEETS?  If a student receives 3 think sheets, they will receive an office referral and will need to discuss behavior with Mrs. Heramb and Mrs. Magistrelli.     

Positive Consquences- I REALLY like to celebrate the GREAT things tha students are doing in the classroom.  I use a WOW Board to catch kids demonstrating CORE VALUES.   Students are able to sign the WOW Board with their initials and on Fridays, I pick Lucky Ducks to win prizes using the coordinates on the grid.  Once the board is filled up, our class eats in the classroom together.  I also believe in recognizing GREAT work by sending home Positive Postcards!   Check your mailbox at home for Postive Postcards!
