California Senate Bill 848 (SB 848) took effect in 2026. Among other provisions to protect student safety, SB 848 expands California’s school mandated reporter requirements by extending coverage to additional individuals, including qualifying school volunteers, governing board members, private school personnel, and certain contractors and others working on behalf of schools who interact with students. It also requires annual mandated reporter training and annual abuse prevention training for covered school personnel and covered volunteers.
