Dear Parents and/or Guardians,

Students in grades 3 to 8 have been invited to participate in a cross-country style race which will be run on school grounds. Students in grades 3 and 4 will run one-half mile and students in grades 5-8 will run one mile. Kindergarten, first, and second grade students will join with their own races where everyone is a winner.

The students have been running and practicing the cross country course during physical education class over the last couple of weeks. Running cross-country has been an excellent aerobic fitness activity for them. During this unit we stress individual improvement by comparing each student’s time to his/her own personal and season best times. The Menands School Pumpkin Run will serve as a culminating event for the fall running season. Finishers will receive a commemorative ribbon. Water will also be available. Parents and Guardians are invited to run with their children or to support them from the sidelines. Spectators, please remember to support and cheer for those mid-pack and back of the pack runners who are giving it their all. Quite often their efforts are as heroic as some of the top finishers.

Students in all grades should dress appropriately for the weather with sneakers and clothes that are comfortable for running. It is a good idea for all students to wear multiple light layers that include gloves and a hat or hood. If you have any questions please call us at (518-465-4561)

Thank you,

Mr. Ahl & Mrs. Bettinger
