Students in orchestra classes develop skills and dispositions in order to express themselves with a string instrument and participate in ensemble music.
Left hand skills: Develop the ability to play with any needed finger patterns. Develop the ability to play in first position and other positions.
Right hand skills: Develop the ability to play with any standard bowing style, such as detache, spiccato, slurs, etc.
Reading Skills: Develop the ability to decode and recreate music from written notation with accurate pitch, rhythm, dynamics, and articulation.
Ensemble Skills: Develop the ability to use your eyes and ears to align your performance with the ensemble with accuracy and musicality.
Musical Skills: Incorporate technique in repertoire successfully. Apply accurate and appropriate dynamics, phrasing, articulation, and other expressive elements into a performance.
