Elementary string instrument lessons happen in grades 4 and 5, in 30 minute lessons once a week.
The curriculum for strings lessons is based on the Bornhoff Approach, which is supported by the Foundation for the Advancement of String Education.
First Year Students use the book "A Primer", and classes will cover the following skills:
-Pizzicato, Detache, Spiccato, and Staccato sound production.
-Various left hand finger patterns, covering all the notes in first position.
-Melodies that incorporate these skills.
Second Year Students are currently following an accelerated version of the first year curriculum in order to align vertically with the first year and middle school students. This will allow all students to succeed and meet consistent standards.
