TOPIC: Career Tests

It can be a daunting journey for a high school student to begin the process of college and career planning. Those students who already know what they plan to study in university, and which careers they plan to pursue, have an easier time of it. For example, some students know at an early age that they want to be a doctor, or a lawyer, or an engineer; for these students, they are aware they must study medicine, law, and engineering, respectively. For those students who are less sure of what they want to study in university - and what they want to do in terms of a job - career tests, interest inventories, and personality tests could possibly give some direction. In the online article, “Career Testing Can Help Direct the Directionless”, high school students uncertain in terms of college and career planning are told that, “Used wisely...career tests -- usually called inventories since they generally aren't tests with right or wrong answers -- can help you get a better sense of who you are and where you might best fit in the world of work.” Regardless if a student does a career test or not, it is fundamentally important that what students study in university (majors) need to be in line with the career/profession/job they plan to pursue afterwards. The College Board is an excellent resource for high school students in terms of career planning and college preparation, particularly if they will be applying to North American universities.
