Week of April 22nd 2024

Hello 4th Grade Families,

Welcome back everyone. We hope you all had a wonderful break and that your students are well rested and ready to learn. We can’t wait to hear all about their adventures this past week. This will be our last traditional newsletter, as we will be moving to weekly happenings to keep you in the loop. It is a busy and exciting time of year!

On Thursday of this week we will make our first trip to the Medway Community Farm. Please be sure permission slips for all field trips are signed and returned. On Thursday, your student will need:

We will eat lunch at the farm, and board the bus around 12:30. We will be contacting chaperones later today. You are welcome to eat with us at the farm if you'd like. Thank you!

SEL: Our SEL focus for the month of April is on students showing practicing following directions and getting to work right away without reminders from a teacher. Discuss the importance of initiating tasks independently with your child.

ELA Update from Mrs. Wotton:

Reading: This week we return to reading our historical fiction books for homework, as well as the traditional reading log. Please help your student remember to complete the log and return his/her book each day. In class, students will be exploring Greek mythology.

Writing:  Students will continue drafting evidence for their opinion essays. Ask your student if he/she needs help collecting evidence, as some are writing about favorite vacation spots and need help with places they visited. Writing portfolios were sent home before break (red binder). Please take a look at your student’s work, and fill out the parent comment sheet sometime this week. Thank you to many who have already done this. We will continue to add to the portfolio through June.

Math Update from Mrs. Clemente:

In Math,we just finished Lesson 21 adding and subtracting mixed numbers. This week we will begin Lesson 22, adding and subtracting fractions in line plots.  We will then move onto Lesson 24 Multiplying Fractions by Whole Numbers. They have been doing a good job of working through these challenging concepts.  Ask your student what their favorite strategy is!  Students should keep practicing their multiplication facts at home to become fluent. Students can use Reflex at home (let me know if your student needs help logging in at home). directions for logging into Google Classroom from home.   Students can also use something called Xtra Math. Parents can create a free account and students can practice for about 10 min a day. Students can also use Prodigy at home which is linked to their Clever account.

A reminder that all resources including anchor charts that students are given at school and videos to help with homework at home are located on the website. Click on the math tab, Unit 4 to access all the resources.  Please connect with me if you are unable to find them or need additional help.

As a class in math students have been extra chatty and getting off task often. Please remind your child about following classroom expectations.
