Classroom Expectations:
As a class, we will brainstorm classroom rules and expectations to follow every day. These will be posted below when they are completed!
3rd Grade Homework Expectations:
ELA
Students are encouraged to read daily for at least 20 minutes. Students greatly benefit from practicing their reading skills at home consistently! They DO NOT need to fill out a reading log, however I will hand one out monthly if they would like to use it. If they turn in their log at the end of the month, they can earn rewards such as homework passes, free choice time, technology time, or lunch with me.
If you are having challenges at home with reading, please reach out to me and I would be happy to brainstorm solutions with you or offer suggestions for what to read.
Math
Math worksheets will be provided in a packet at the start of the week. The worksheets can be turned in daily OR on their due date–the last day of the week (typically Fridays). My hope is that providing worksheets at the beginning of the week allows for more flexibility for families. I understand that students other activities outside of school and things can come up! If there is a night where students are having difficulty with a worksheet, please INITIAL the corner of the worksheet so I know and I will review it with your child together in class. Homework assignments will be a review of previously-learned concepts, not concepts that we are currently studying in class.
Students will also be expected to practice their math facts for 5 minutes per night. This ensures continued growth. Students can choose flashcards, scrap paper, or the optional fluency page for practice.
Homework Reminders:
Students should be completing their homework independently. They should ask for an adult's help only when it is really needed. If they have questions, I encourage them to ask me at school the following day so that we can review it together.
Find a work space at home that is distraction free.
Homework is expected to be taken home in your child's homework folder each week.
Homework is expected to be turned in on time and completed with a best effort.
I will reach out to families directly if your child has missed consecutive assignments.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns regarding homework!
