This is a small list of some universities and art colleges that offer art related degrees. Not all schools offer the same degrees and some degrees are similar but different among schools. If you are interested in pursuing a degree for art, spend some time looking through the art department offerings. While looking, pay attention to the faculty and their own art as well as looking through alumni, former students who graduated from that college. Most higher learning facilities offer scholarships, learning opportunities linked through galleries, and help with careers. Every institution's web site will be different and full of links within links. Bookmark sites that interest you and ask questions! Once you have narrowed your choices, plan a visit to tour the art department and get a feel for the school and its professors.
Community Colleges offer two year degrees called Associates Degrees (A.S.). Most students choosing to attend a community college go there for two years and choose to transfer to a college or university.
Most colleges and universities offer 4 year degrees called undergraduate degrees like a Bachelor's of Fine Arts (BFA), or a Bachelor of Arts majoring in a specific concentration such as painting, graphic design, photography or print media. Most colleges allow you to have a major or minor concentration and will work with students to tailor their degree to related subjects. Your admissions counselor can advise you.
An Art Education degree requires a Masters degree which is additional two to three years of study. In order to teach at the college or university level, a PhD is required. Requirements for a PhD vary from institution to institution.
