Contour Drawing is a line focused on capturing the outline and basic shapes of a subject. The contour describes the outermost edges of a form as well as the changes of the plane of a form using a continuous line. It's a valuable exercise for developing observational skills and hand-eye coordination, as it encourages the artist to focus on the subject's contours and shapes.
Blind Contour
I can develop my observational skills by drawing what I see in contour drawing.
I can recognize shapes withing objects that I draw. understanding perspective, mastering light and shadow, and practicing various techniques. Ultimately, these skills enhance creativity, problem-solving, and self-expression.
I can use negative space to see the surrounding shapes around the object that I draw.
I can use contour to add inside details for more realistic drawings by drawing inside and outside lines and adjusting line quality.
