Make the classroom a safe and welcoming place to live, learn, and grow.
Be respectful to myself and others, and be responsible for ourselves at all times.
We are an Co-Taught Classroom
That means there are 2 teachers, a general education teacher and a special education teacher working within the classroom. Both teachers share equal responsibility for the running of the classroom and the student learning.
What it looks like?
It may look different day to day. All teaching, assessments, and activities can be lead by either teacher or both together. One teacher may be seen moving around the room supporting student learning while the other remains at the front, both teachers may be working with small groups or individuals, or one teacher may lead an activity while the other supports with audio or visuals. The possibilities are endless.
Why is it important to all students?
No two students learn in the exact same way. An integrated classroom provides flexibility in learning styles and may allow for a wider variety of lesson and assessment formats. An additional teacher also offers an additional perspective, twice as much background knowledge and expertise in subject areas. Another person in the classroom allows for more attention for each student working in small groups or meeting with a teacher one on one. The integrated setting provides well supported academic instructions for ALL students.
