Middle School 3.0

Assignments will be posted to Google Classroom. Google Classroom is an online organizational system that allows teachers to share and collect lessons and assignments within a closed group. This is the best way for secondary teachers to organize materials for students and parents. Check out the Technology Tab for tutorials on Google Classroom for Parents and Students!

What will my student's week look like?

  • In Online Learning 3.0, middle school students will follow an adjusted 30 minute class schedule, 5 days a week. They will be expected to log in and participate in class each day. Attendance will be taken. Medina City Schools attendance policies will be enforced.

  • During class time, teachers will teach as they normally do which means that there may be times students are working in a virtual "small group" through Google Meet or they may spend some of the class time beginning work on an assignment. It is the expectation that students are logged in to each class for the full 30 minutes each day.

  • Teachers may require students to turn on cameras periodically during class.

  • Students will be expected to complete assignments posted in Google Classroom.

  • Due dates will vary by teacher and assignment.

  • Our teachers will aim to make learning interactive and engage students in discussion as much as possible. This could look different depending on the class. Some teachers will have students respond to readings, videos, comment on a discussion board, or discuss the way a problem is solved.

  • Above all we want students to feel connected and maintain their positive relationships with their teachers as well as learn their content!

  • If your child receives Special Education, Reading Intervention or Gifted Services, those teachers will also be reaching out to students.

How will my student be assessed?

  • Students will be taking assessments of their learning using an online format such as Edulastic, Google Forms, etc.

  • Teachers will offer instructional feedback on each assignment to students, whether it be verbal through virtual meetings or written on assignments. It is important in this unusual situation that students reach out to their teachers if they do not understand something.

  • Student due dates for assignments will vary.

  • Teachers will define their late work policy as part of their expectations in the syllabus of their course.

  • Grades will reflect mastery of content and will be consistent with in-person grading expectations.

  • Remember, we are all in this together! We know that every family is facing their own set of unique circumstances. Please know that your child's teacher and principal are there to help. If either notice that work is not being completed, they may reach out to you to see what they can do to help support you. Your child's learning and well-being are of the utmost importance to us!

How can I communicate with my child's teachers?

  • Email is always an efficient way to contact your child's teacher. Teachers will be checking email and will always respond within 24 hours during the school week.

  • Students can schedule time to meet with their teachers during Office Hours per the schedule found above.
