Student Cohort @ Santiago

Call for Student Cohort

This workshop's format consists of in-person lectures/tutorials, labs, breakout sessions, and research talks.

We are excited to lead lectures and hands-on labs by synthesizing and communicating with students, all while sharing MIT's approach to science and engineering. We expect that through this program, students envision exciting intersections for future collaborations that ultimately benefit our world.

We welcome applications from all the corners and will work towards having a diverse pool of applicants and open as many spots as possible to have you join us during the 2nd week of January 2023.

As part of our student cohort, you'll not only get to experience formal learning but also will have plenty of networking opportunities with other attendees through coffee and lunch breaks.

Logistics

This workshop's format consists of *in-person* lectures, labs, breakout sessions, and research talks. Hence, you'll be expected to attend in person if accepted as part of our cohort. Hybrid mode may not be available at this time.

We expect that through this program, students envision exciting intersections for future collaborations that ultimately benefit our world.

The hand-on activities uniquely designed for the MIT-Chile workshop will be technical, and we will expect you to pose research questions, play with coding notebooks, and discuss with your peers. We invite students, learners, and professionals pursuing independent studies or undergraduate and graduate degrees to apply as well as those in industry who are seeking to deepen their knowledge and motivations to learn more about the convergence of two Human-Centered spheres, Machine Learning (ML) and Visualization (Viz).

Note that we will not cover study cases or industry-focused development as much as we will focus in ongoing research work being carried by our lineup of lecturers and speakers.

Selection criteria

In the scenario that our pool of applicant exceeds the quorum that we are capable of bringing in, we will focus our selection criteria in the following aspects:

- Baseline: Interest in a mix of Math / CS / Visualization / Design / Social Science.

- Baseline: At least one programming course approved or independent hands-on learning.

- Baseline: Interest in Human-Centered AI & Visualization or Human-Centered AI Research.

- Baseline: Proficiency in spoken English.

- Desirable: Background in a mix of Math / CS / Visualization / Design / Social Science.

- Desirable: Professional Working English (ILR Level 3).

Language requirement

While a handful of sessions will be carried out in Spanish, and students will be invited to participate in Q&A in both English and Spanish, lectures will be performed in English.

Certificate of Participation

Students who attend at least 80% of the sessions can opt for a Certificate of Participation.
