Step 2 Closed Syllables
(4-6 sounds)
2.1 I can identify, read and spell real and nonsense words with welded sounds for the graphemes ang, ing, ong, ung, ank, ink, onk, unk (Ex: bang, pink)
I can read and spell real and nonsense basewords with the suffix -s (Ex: kings)
2.2 I can read and spell real and nonsense words with four sounds in a closed syllable, adding suffix -s or -es (Ex: flag, steps, brushes)
2.3 I can read and spell real words with the closed syllable exceptions ild, ind, old, ost, olt (Ex: mold, host)
2.4 I can and spell real and nonsense words with five sounds in a closed syllable, adding suffix -s or -es (Ex: spend, crafts, branches).
I can identify 15 common closed-syllable Latin-base elements (Ex: -rupt-, -sist-) and use my resources to identify their meaning.
2.5 I can read and spell real and nonsense words with three-letter blends and up to six sounds in a closed syllable, adding suffix -s or -es. (Ex: spend, crafts, branches)
