Students must be healthy to be educated and educated to be healthy.
WELCOME!
School nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well-being, academic success, and life-long achievement of students. MERSD nurses are here to serve as liaisons between home and school and as a health resource for you and your child.
About Health Services
What we do:
Evaluate and manage student health needs
Administer student medications and monitor health conditions
Provide first aid and emergency care
Perform annual health screenings (information is sent home before screenings)
Support students and families with accessing medical care
Please reach out if your child has:
New medications or changes in current medication
A new diagnosis or change in health status (including any serious illness, injury or hospitalization)
Changes within the family that may impact the student while in school
A few reminders for parents AND caregivers:
If your child is going to be absent or late please let the office and their teacher know.
Students with a temperature of 100°F or greater need to stay home until fever-free for at least 24 hours without the aid of Tylenol or Ibuprofen.
Students experiencing diarrhea or vomiting should be symptom-free for 24 hours and tolerate solid food before returning to school.
If a student has been diagnosed with a contagious illness, it is the school policy for the student to be on antibiotics for 24 hours before attending school.
This also includes strep throat or strep skin infections - even though there has been a change to the guidance set by the American Academy of Pediatrics and CDC, Massachusetts state regulations still require students to be on antibiotics for 24 hours prior to returning to school.
If you are unsure whether or not your student is ok to attend school, please feel free to call and discuss.
PLEASE REMEMBER THAT ALL CLASSROOMS ARE PEANUT AND NUT-FREE.
Extra clothing: occasionally a spilled drink, a fall into a puddle or a slide down a wet slide occurs at school. An extra set of clothing at school could prevent an emergency run for a parent.

I graduated from Boston College's School of Nursing in 1999 (Go Eagles!) and worked in various areas of nursing including cardiac surgery, cardiology, and research. Kids have always been #1 to me, so school nursing seemed like the perfect fit. I'm entering my 4th year as the school nurse at EES and love my job (especially the kids!) and the community.
Outside of EES, I have three grown kids (where does the time go!) and love spending time with them, and traveling with my husband (usually to watch their college soccer games).
