3rd Grade Art

Yayoi Kusama Dotted Pumpkins

Third graders learned about Yayoi Kusama and her life as an artist. She loves to work with abstract and interesting elements in her artworks. We completed a fall-themed artwork using pumpkins and abstract patterns.

2023 Warm & Cool Sailboats!

Students in 3rd Grade learned about two groups of colors - the warm colors and the cool colors. Warm colors are red, orange, and yellow; they often remind us of the sun, danger, fire, and heat. Cool colors are blue, purple, and green. These colors remind us of cool grass, water, ice, and nighttime.

This project is one that I do every year because it is the best (I think) lesson for teaching Warm and Cool Colors. Also, the kids' eyes light up when they look at their final project and see how it turned out.

Students were instructed to divide their papers into two parts - the sky (warm colors for sunset) and the water (cool colors). We painted with watercolors, then after they were dry we took Sharpie markers and drew silhouettes of sailboats and other things on the water! They turned out awesome! Below are a few examples!
