Young people in crisis are struggling to find the mental health treatment they need. At Charlie Health, we’re creating serious, effective, and accessible solutions. Our treatment programs, including our virtual Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), combine personalized care with peer connection to foster long-term healing.
Virtual intensive outpatient programming (IOP) is a level of mental healthcare that is typically more structured and intensive than traditional weekly therapy. Treatment is delivered to clients directly at home. The goal of IOP is to help people manage their mental health and achieve lasting recovery while still allowing them to maintain their daily routines and responsibilities.
The Youth Acute Unit, an inpatient unit at Kootenai Health, is a place for healing and recovery for youth in a psychiatric crisis. Our strengths-based program works with children ages 5-12 and adolescents 13-17 to promote safety, stability, and hope. We offer expert diagnostic assessment, medication treatment as appropriate and individual and family therapy in a safe and nurturing environment. The goal of the program is for each child and adolescent to successfully return to his or her home, school, and community.
Youth Inpatient Program provides the following: Diagnostic Assessment, Individual and family therapy, Group therapy, School on-site classroom (partner with child’s school for school work), Coping Skills, Recreation Therapy (access to on-site gym), Safe, secure environment, with 24-hour monitoring, and Transition planning for the next level of care
The Psychiatric Center for Children and Adolescents (PCCA) provides short-term interventions to help kids, age 12-18, get back on track after a mental health emergency. Patients are referred to PCCA through the Emergency Department (ED). Once admitted, patients receive 24/7 care while their treatment team works on three primary treatment goals: stabilization of the mental health crisis, assessment of the patient’s mental health and referral to appropriate services for ongoing care.
PCCA helps patients achieve stabilization, assessment and referral by offering interventions from a multidisciplinary approach. Interventions vary depending on each patient’s needs and can include medication management, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)-informed skills groups, observation by and interaction with nurses and mental health counselors (MHC’s) to ensure a safe environment, psychological assessment, behavioral assessment, medical assessment and treatment for any acute medical problems, family therapy, safety planning, advocacy to assist with the initiation of 504/IEP assessments at school and social work to assist with referrals for ongoing care. PCCA collaborates with families and outpatient therapists to help the patients have a smooth transition back home when they are ready for discharge.
