In order to create an environment where students feel welcome regardless of their financial situation, gender identity, or cultural background, the CHS Choir Program has made equitable performance attire one of its top priorities. Families are no longer expected to purchase expensive clothing that reflects binary gender norms and a skewed sense of “professionalism.” Our uniform policy has been designed to provide an affordable, inclusive, and unified aesthetic for all ensembles, no matter the situation.
Concert Black
CHS Choir students must provide their own outfit to be worn at all formal concerts (i.e. Fall Concert, Spring Concert, All-District Choir Festival, etc.). They will be able to wear any outfit that makes them feel comfortable, assuming it follows the guidelines below:
All garments must be black and not faded in any way. Concerts are formal events and no denim should be worn.
Necklines should not be deep or scooped.
Sleeves must be at least ¼ length to cover shoulders.
Pants/skirts must be floor-length. Capris, knee-length skirts with tights, or other such garments are not floor-length.
Socks/stockings must be black.
Shoes should be close-toed and formal. No sneakers, combat boots, or sandals should be worn, and heels should be no taller than 1½” to avoid tripping when walking on/off risers.
Dresses are perfectly fine, assuming they follow the guidelines listed above.
Jewelry should be minimal.
Hair should be styled neatly and out of the face.
Perfume/Cologne should not be worn (but deodorant is always encouraged).
Color Accents
In addition to their Concert Black uniform, students will be given colorful accent pieces specific to their ensemble. These will be handed out immediately before a performance and collected immediately afterward:
Honey Tones—goldenrod bandanas (Mr. West provides)
Evergreens—dark green bows/bow ties (Mr. West provides)
A Cappella—red anything (student provides)
Deadline
All students must have their Concert Black uniform ready in time for Choir Picture Day on Thursday, September 3rd, 2026.
CHS Choirs T-Shirt
Every student will be given a green Choir Program t-shirt free of charge. These will be worn for field trips and less-formal performances, so it is expected that students keep their shirts clean and unaltered (i.e. cut, tie-dyed, etc.). Additional shirts can be purchased from the beginning of each school year until the Welcome Back Potluck. Only one t-shirt order will be placed, so make sure to get yours while you can!
