In order to create an environment where students feel welcome regardless of their financial situation, gender identity, or cultural background, the CHS Choir Program has made equitable performance attire one of its top priorities. Families are no longer expected to purchase expensive uniforms (tuxedos, dresses, etc.) that reflect binary gender norms and a skewed sense of “professionalism.” Our uniform policy has been revamped to provide an affordable, inclusive, and unified aesthetic for all ensembles, no matter the occasion.
CHS Choir students must provide their own outfit to be worn at all formal performances (i.e. Fall & Spring Choir Concerts, All-District Choral Festival, etc.). They will be able to wear any outfit that makes them feel comfortable, assuming that it follows the guidelines listed below:
All garments must be black and not denim or faded in any way.
Necklines should not be deep or scooped.
Sleeves must be at least 1⁄4 length (no shoulder).
Pants/skirts must be floor-length. Capris, knee-length skirts with tights, or other such garments are not considered floor-length.
Dress shoes should be close-toed (no sneakers, combat boots, or flip flops), heels no taller than 1.5”, and no sequins, buckles, etc. Socks and stockings must be black.
Dresses are perfectly fine, assuming they follow the above guidelines.
Other:
Jewelry should be minimal.
Hair should be styled neatly and out of the face.
Perfume/Cologne should not be used, but deodorant is recommended.
Color Accent Pieces
In addition to their Concert Black attire, students will wear a color accent piece unique to their ensemble. These will be handed out immediately before a concert and collected immediately after:
Concert Choir—dark green bows/bow ties (provided by CHS Choir Boosters)
Honey Tones—goldenrod bandanas (provided by CHS Choir Boosters)
A Cappella—red anything (provided by student)
Each student in the CHS Choral Program will be provided a green CHS Choirs t-shirt free of charge. These will be worn for field trips and informal performances, so it is expected that students keep their shirts clean at all times. Additional shirts for family and friends may be purchased until the early September at the Welcome Back Potluck. Only one order will be placed each year, so make sure to get yours while you can!
