Much to be Thankful For

MDLP has much to be thankful for ...

Engaging in Learning during the Holidays

With the holidays approaching, many students may want to take an extended break from their courses to spend time with family and friends. If this is the case, students should plan to work ahead in their courses to ensure they do not fall behind during the holidays. Regardless of working ahead, students are required to engage in learning for at least part of their holiday breaks.

Students who wish to work ahead may do so with the understanding that they must login and submit coursework within the 14-day progress period. Students who do not login and submit coursework for 7 consecutive days will receive a progress warning. Students who do not login and submit coursework for 14 consecutive days will be dropped from the course.

Students should review the course calendar available in each course to determine a plan for working ahead. The course calendar can be adjusted based on the days in which students will engage in learning and can help students set daily and/or weekly progress goals to ensure successful completion of the course. Full-time MDLP students who need support with maintaining or making progress in their online courses should contact the MDLP counselor, Buck Bannon, at 480-308-6006 or bkbannon@mpsaz.org. Concurrently enrolled students who need support should contact their home school counselor or MDLP support at 480-308-6025 or support@mdlp.org.

MDLP teachers will continue to answer questions, provide feedback, grade assignments, and support students over the holidays with the exception of November 23, December 24-26, December 31, January 1 and Saturdays (optional for teachers to login). MDLP Support will be accessible by email during the holiday breaks, with the exception of the dates listed above.

Multiple Systems of Support

MDLP has created multiple systems of support that ensure all students receive what they need - academically, behaviorally, socially, and emotionally. We have taken a proactive and preventative approach that integrates data and instruction to maximize student achievement and support students from a strengths-based perspective. Staff members engage in data-based decision making related to program improvement, high-quality instruction and intervention, social and emotional learning, and positive behavioral supports necessary to ensure positive outcomes for students. A few systems of support are:

New Look for Math Courses

While lesson pages and course content in most MDLP courses are created and published using Adobe Dreamweaver, MDLP math courses have been designed using Adobe Captivate. While this software allowed for interactive content, it resulted in many limitations that prevented alignment with all other MDLP courses.

Based on feedback from students, parents, and teachers, the MDLP instructional design team is making the shift to Dreamweaver for all math courses. Starting with MA27 Algebra I this Fall and continuing with MA30 Geometry next Spring, all math courses will eventually look and feel like all other MDLP courses.

The main change students will notice is the absence of content displayed in a slideshow format. A few of the other changes that students will notice are a more organized approach to content display, easier access to all math content, additional opportunities for engagement and practice, and easily accessible and extended examples.

If parents or students have any questions regarding the MDLP courses, they may contact the MDLP math instructional designer/content specialist, David Morrow, at 480-308-6019 or dmorrow@mdlp.org

The Promise requires a safe environment, where students act with honesty, integrity, civility, and respect for themselves and others. The Code of Conduct reflects the district's vision, and the attitudes and skills in our Portrait of a Graduate. Please review this document to ensure your understanding of its contents.
