The objective of the project was to determine the effect of birth order on Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator among high school students.
Firstborn children vs. Last-born children are more likely to be extroverted
Last-born children vs. Firstborn children are more likely to be introverted
With a study population of 83 participants, 37.3% of the subjects were last-born children and 62.7% were firstborn children (Figure 1). Among the study population, 45.8% of the subjects were extroverts on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and 54.2% of the subjects were introverts (Figure 2). Firstborns and last-borns were analyzed to determine if birth order had an effect on the Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator as an introvert or extrovert. In total, there were 26 introverted firstborns and 26 extroverted last-borns. 19 introverted last-borns and 12 extroverted last-borns. Using Fisher's Exact test, the p-value was 0.367 (Table 1).
P ≥ 0.05, Not Significant
Firstborn children are slightly more likely to be extroverted than last-born children, however, the correlation is not significant (P ≥ 0.05).
Last-born children are slightly more likely to be introverted than firstborn children, however, the correlation is not significant (P ≥ 0.05).
